Alec Thigpen, Photographer, Pilot, and Owner:  Alec has 33 years experience as a professional photographer, specializing in Advertising, Commercial and Aerial Photography.  He is also a pilot, flying our Cessna 182 equipped with a camera port for verticals.  Alec has always loved the technical aspects of photography.  He's mentored other photographers and taught classes on lighting, medium and large format film as well as digital photography disciplines.  Outside of work, Alec is an accomplished musician with both the Mobile and Baldwin Pops and loves sailing and fishing. alec@thigpenphoto.com

Valerie Uteg, Print Archivist and Photographer:  Shortly after graduating with a BS in Marine Biology from Spring Hill College, Valerie followed her love of photography.  Since 1998, she has been working in varying areas from processing film and printing to the many aspects of commercial, architectural and aerial photography. Valerie revived and now oversees the vast collection of vintage photography that spans 60 years of history, growth and activities in the Mobile and surrounding areas, including aerials and Mardi Gras. To further her involvement in the realm of aerial photography and to continue her education as a "student of life", she has begun her training to obtain her pilots license. valerie@thigpenphoto.com

Jenny Wolff-Harrison, Photographer: The newest member of our team, she graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2001. After living in Los Angeles California for a couple of years, she returned to her home town of Fairhope, Alabama to work in the family art business. While fine art is one of her passions, she finds commercial photography intriguing in its diversity. jenny@thigpenphoto.com

A Brief History

The business was started by Roy Thigpen in 1947. Our first studio was in downtown Mobile on State Street. In the early 1960's, we moved to a studio on the I-65 Beltline Highway. Alec started in the lab in 1973 and took over the business ten years later. We built our new studio at 2105 Vivian Drive in 1987, with all the features that we wanted for custom printing, and a shooting studio with a roll-up door to bring in very large commercial products.
